Little Miss Momma: Airports Make Me Cry

Airports Make Me Cry

No one ever tells you that having children will make you all weepy.
Or that something as simple as a Pampers commercial
will suddenly bring you to tears.
And that the thought of any child suffering anywhere in the world will make you sick to your stomach.

No one ever tells you just how much your heart will grow,
once you make that special addition to your family.

And yesterday, when we were waiting in line at the airport
I happened across a family of four saying their goodbyes.

Momma, Dad, Sister, Brother.

From the looks of things,
they were sending their son off.
Probably somewhere far away and important,
like boot camp or college.
{at least that's how I imagined it}

I couldn't help but notice the Momma subtly wipe away tears she was attempting to hide from her son.

And suddenly I was 18 years into the future,
sending my son off,
on some important journey
to make his mark on the world.

...and then, right there
in the middle of the airport
I was wiping away my own tears.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a weepy weepster.

And when I got home, I decided to torture myself some more with my favorite clip from the movie Love Actually--the infamous airport scene.

We send my brother into the MTC on Wednesday and although I'm not his mom I just had my first baby, and son, only a month ago. Now as Wednesday approaches it brings more and more tears. The thought of missing one of my best friends for so long, how awesome he will do, and the knowledge that in 19 years I will get to do the same is SOOO much more overwhelming after just becoming a brand new mommy.

My kids are 13, 13 and 14 now. My weepy faucet hasn't turned off since I became a mom. In fact, I'm probably getting worse. Oh well. I go with it. Bring on the water works...I am who I am.

We do our kiddos, though, don't we?

I totally know what you mean. I always cry for other people--even if they're on tv. There must be something about being a woman and being able to put yourself in the shoes of the other person or character...and crying.

dang it.
way to make a Momma of 3 cry!! you know the hormones from babies just multiply and take over your entire self after that many.
I don't know how Mrs.Duggar walks out the front door without a box of tissues.
For realsies.

Seriously! I thought the crying hormones disappeared after the first few months. :) Ever heard the phrase, "Once you become a mother, you feel like every child could be yours?" Every time I see another kid, I just put baby girl's face on them and it just eats me up!

i thought it was bad after my first child.. i used to tease my mom & aunts about all the waterworks.. then when i was pregnant with my second i caught myself crying in the car over radio commercials that wouldn't/SHOULDN'T evoke tears from anyone...

and now.. since my second has entered this world... i'm like a big boohoo wagon. AND my husband/oldest ask me all the time... ARE YOU CRYING?!?! because.. i cry about EVERYTHING now.

but you are right.. your heart grows & you change... dramatically. for the better... (just have to carry more kleenex or figure out how to more stealthly hide the tears!)

(ps-i think we are a movie match... i love love actually.. we watched it the other night..(and because i'm odd & think of things like this) i told the hubs i wanted my funeral to be like liam neeson's wife's in that movie. pictures & a song... )

Ive always loved watching people in airports. When we flew to Disney over Thanksgiving I teared up just watching soldiers walking to their gates with their luggage. They werent even meeting people or anything, jsut alone. It mad me so sad that they give up so much for our freedom. Just another aspect of this whole story.

Sarah

And now I'm weeping as I read it! Yeah becoming a Momma pretty much makes me cry about any child/parent suffering!

OMG, I am totally with you on that one...and I think it gets even worse after the second kiddo comes along. My kiddos are 11 and 9 and still I weep away! The Publix commercials in our area especially get me. I follow the WelcomeHomeBlog which shows videos of men and women who are serving in our armed forces coming home to their families...I always have a box of tissues on hand when I watch. As much as I cry though, I can't bring myself to stop watching!

Seriously. I cry. Alot.... And, I have most recently begun to have those flashes of saying good bye in my head... my daughter is a Freshman this year and DREAMS of going to college somewhere warm (which means far from here) and I am already having anxiety over it. Excited for her, of course - but incredibly sad at the same time. Instead of crying, I focus on today with her and make sure I make amazing memories while she is here!!!!

The word verification is foked.. I dont know why I find that funny.. at least it didnt make me cry ;)

Love Actually is one of my favourite movies and this part always makes me weep. I have a love hate relationship with airports. I love seeing the happy arrivals (they make me weep) but the goodbyes also make me weep, especially b/c we are that family all too often saying bye to my in-laws and taking their only grandbaby away...so sad. Hope you had a great trip!

I know how this is! I cry from everything now.
Heck, I am sending my son to kindergarten in the fall and I have already cried about it SO many times it's not even funny. I don't even know what I am going to do when he leaves for college or whatever he chooses to do.

I too have found that being a mommy increases the tears. I am soo an anti-crier, but after #2 came in July I find myself fighting the tears more and more.I think God wants me to cry more and be a little more sensitive if I am a mommy.

It's nice to know that I am not alone...My husband finds it hilarious when I just bust out crying and tell him it has something to do with our daughter all grown up. I think it is just part of being a momma :)

Why am I not familiar with this "Love Actually business"??? Maybe because I've been living in interior Alaska for the last 8 months. Yeah. Probably that. This is a sweet post. I love being on the happy, receiving end of the airport.

I'm such a big crier now, and I am so not a crier or emotional person, well at least I used to not be..
My kids have gone and visited relatives before, so sending them off with goodbyes hasn't ever been a big deal, but last summer my oldest went to visit his cousins and took his first flight. That brought on the waterworks. I was able to (mostly) hold in the tears at the airport, but as soon as he boarded the plane and I watched it takeoff, I was a mess!! He was even making fun of me before he left because he knew I was trying to keep from crying.

Airports make me cry too! Every time you are there you are staying goodbye to someone! I hated when they let you take the missionaries all the way to the gate (a few of my older brothers went on missions when they let you) and I would always cry so much. Glad you guys made it home safe though!

So, I have a favor. Since your like the bomb.com, and always do fun posts, today I did a post about dreams and what mine is. I decided to make it a link party and it would be fun if you would participate! Check it out and let me know what ya think.

I would just LOVE it if you did participate!

You are awesome.

I saw a pic of someone I know dancing with her son at his wedding. I burst into tears!

I think I live in the future too much, every day I think about what my boys will be like when they grow up, my daughter n law & my grandchildren....and my youngest is only 11mo old! Crazy, I know!

They grow so so fast, I don't want to miss a thing. I know that eventually they will all move away...maybe I am just preparing my heart now for them leaving!

First off, love actually is like my all time favorite movie. Second, I feel the EXACT same way, I feel like I cry more since I had my daughter than throughout my whole life previous. Geesh. But I also think that having a child is like nothing else in the world, I have two now and my heart aches and smiles everyday.
