Remember Prom?

Remember Prom?
Ahhh, it feels like so long ago.
Making myself all fancy.
Agonizing for days over my hair style.
Finding the perfect shoes.
And then the accessories...
What to wear? What to wear?

Well, a beautiful girl on her way to Prom needs our advice girlies.
Brianna, a gorgeous high school student, emailed me seeking advice.

What necklace do we suggest she wear with this stunning dress?

What do you think?

Feel free to include links.

BTW Brianna, you look like a beautiful princess in this dress!

Borrowed pearls would be amazing, I think. :o) Or even some of her own if she has any... I didn't get my official set of pearls until I met my prince charming tho, way after prom. :o)

i never went to prom, but i always oogled over dresses like this one, and day dreamed the art club president would ask me, oh high school. as for Brianna, she looks stunning in this dress. she should wear something with color. but it depends on how she does her hair and what hair accessories she will wear.

Briana, I'd go with dangly black beaded (maybe even chandelier) earrings instead of a necklace to minimize competition with the designs on your dress. Have a ball!

At May 3, 2011 at 11:39 PM , Blogger Karley said...

Agree with Jameil - Nice black ornate erarings are the go and let the dress shine by itself!!

Oh, Briana! How gorgeous you look! Love this dress. The top of the dress is so pretty and is the main focus, so I'd definitely go with some long beautiful earrings, so that it doesn't take away from the dress. :)

Yay for Prom...Beautiful dress! Here are three options I found on Etsy...The first is a little pricey but so beautiful...I say it is Prom...when do you get a chance to be all fancy:) The other two are reasonable and super cute.

A simple strand of pearls would almost give it a Holly-go-lightly feel. :)

I agree with the rest. That dress is beautiful!

That dress = BEYOND gorgeous. It totally speaks for itself. I am not fashionista, but I'd say something understated would work wonders. String of pearls is a great idea :) YOU LOOK GORGEOUS! I never went to my prom; I was too busy waiting for someone to ask me. Enjoy these years.

I think the necklace you made in your tutorial yesterday the bib necklace. She could always alter the pattern to make it smaller. She would then have a one of a kind piece!

Such a pretty dress!
I love the black and white! This formal tear drop necklace could be a way you could add some color to your ensemble. I love the subtle light blue color. If you don't find any jewelry you like, I think pearls would look very classy with your dress also!

I'm so bad at accessorizing I wouldn't even dream of giving advice for her big day but I wanted to chime in and say how much I love that dress, especially on her! Very flattering and I agree that she looks like a princess. I only wish I'd had the funds to buy myself a kick-ass dress like that for prom. Or, for that matter, for my wedding. Of course, now that I have the money for such things there are no formal dances for me to dress up for. It's so tough being an adult!

Love the dress!! Very vintage which I love. I would go with a black victorian style necklace to match your gown.. something like this..

I also agree above with some of the sentiments above. Definitely no necklace, it will compete with the beautiful beading of the dress. I'd go with a stunning pair of drop or chandelier earrings. This dress reminds me of Catherine Zeta Jones. Have a wonderful magical night!

or even something simple like this from Deb: http://www.debshops.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10994935&cp=3371588.11280055.3369465 (and it's only $5 -score!)

Nice price point http://www.etsy.com/listing/28564159/elegant-evening?ref=sr_gallery_40&ga_search_query=drop+necklace+black&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

Very romantic and I love it and for $22 can't beat it http://www.etsy.com/listing/61997938/mother-of-pearl-with-white-silk-necklace

I like how dainty this one is but not sure it would work with the dress http://www.etsy.com/listing/65817893/grey-freshwater-pearlsmoky-quartz-and

Pretty pearls for $18 sweet deal http://www.etsy.com/listing/65822614/mother-of-pearl-necklace

Such a pretty dress, I think a necklace would be too much. Earrings and a bracelet or a stack of them on one wrist. Simple black dangly earrings! Have a fun time, you will look beautiful! The best accessory is self confidence! You go girl!

Pretty dress! For any accessories, I would go SIMPLE! That way she doesn't take away from the details of the dress...

BEAUTIFUL!! I would say simple simple or no necklace at all. Maybe some black earrings that Dangle, but you don't want to take away the attention from such a fabulous dress..

At May 4, 2011 at 9:55 AM , Anonymous Evanne said...

I think the dress is gorgeous! The neckline has the most detail, so I really don't think you need a necklace. I would go with some really nice drop earrings.

http://www.claires.com/site/the-goods/Necklaces-%26-Earrings/cat290022?name=Necklaces+%26+Earrings&type=&styleType=&id=cat290022

My two favorites are the Sparkling Crystal Leaf Earrings and Sparkling Crystal Chandeliers.

I think either would add that something special to your outfit and give it the pop you are looking for. Have a wonderful time!!

I don't have a link for you but I think a black rhinestone. One that sits as a choker but dangles at the base of the neck. Truthfully, I'm just writing to say that you look absolutely GORGEOUS, Brianna and I LOVE your dress!! Have fun at prom!

First of all GORGEOUS!!! Brianna, you are going to look absolutely stunning at Prom.

Are you going to have a wrist corsage? If so what color? Are you going to be carrying a clutch? If so what color?

Any color corsage and clutch would make this dress pop; however I am leaning more towards a black satin or clutch or a black one that is lightly beaded; sequins just wont do; maybe a black clutch with a bow accent on the front?

For jewelry; if you do plan on carrying a clutch and have a wrist corsage I would do a simple single diamond or possible a three diamond necklace with a pretty pair of chandelier earrings. Do you have a Charming Charlie's near you; they have amazing jewelry at great prices :)

And you can't forget about perfume!! Calvin Cline Euphoria is an amazing scent; so is Dior Addict in the blueish black bottle, wear this all the time and get compliments from men and women alike.

Hope you have the time of your life!! Don't forget to take pictures...lots and lots of pictures :)

Brianna you look beautiful! As for a necklace, personally I would go with some gorgeous earrings to show off that pretty face and maybe some fabulous ring worn on the pointer finger:)

At May 6, 2011 at 9:05 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I, too, think some chandelier earrings are perfect, especially with an updo or half-updo! Your bangs would be great with an updo! I would then add a blingin' bracelet OR a big bold ring. Not both though!

At May 6, 2011 at 4:33 PM , Blogger Tara said...

I say skip the necklace and wear killer chandelier earrings. There is already a lot of detail up around the neckline of the dress. A necklace would just add more and make it busy. Go with a killer pair of earrings and a great bracelet.
