She-Ra Warrior Princess

Have I ever mentioned that I have a hard time getting rid of stuff?
Especially if it is even the least bit sentimental.
So today my Momma came over to give me the smack down.
It's time Ashley. I'm bringing trash bags.

But I wasn't worried.
I knew she would take one look at the memories inside my bins
and she wouldn't have the heart to make me get rid of a thing.
And I was right.

My She-Ra doll.

Whenever I would visit my Dad, we would go to the LA Zoo. We never left before I got one of these plastic guerrillas.  I would walk around the Zoo smelling the plastic scent {yeah, I was a weird kid}.

And then I stumbled upon the extent of my "rebelliousness" as a kid.
Hidden within my Chucke Cheese mini backpack, fireworks--that I was always too scared to light, but felt like a rebel because I had them hidden in my room for years.

A picture of my Dad that reminds me of Baby W.

A letter my Aunt wrote to be just before she passed away.

My first glamour shot.

One of the rare pictures taken of me with black hair. Back in the dating days.

A few of my favorites from my childhood knife collection.
I told you I was weird.

Brad Pitts tickets to the Academy Awards that he left in his Limo.

My first cassette tapes. Wow, that makes me feel old.

My Homecoming crown.

So to make space for all my memories we busted out the Space Savers.
Is it weird that these make me giddy?
They might just be the greatest invention of all times.

Here is my Momma loading massive amounts of blankets in the Space Saver.

Woah, right?!

What memories have you been holding onto for years?

I totally have a bunch of my baby clothes. As in, the ones I wore and spit up on. Can't decide if that's weird or not. Also, I have a gigantic bin of all the Harry Potter memorabilia I collected from 5th grade until 11th grade. Games, stuffed snitch, Snape action figure...

Oh gosh, all your old stuff is sooo cool! Been keeping old books, old letters and a few stuffed toys. Some toys and books I can probably give away...(would have to think hard about that. lol) Have old letters in old shoeboxes...they bring back so many memories! Thanks for sharing your old stuff -- I should start de-cluttering soon! :)

I have about fifteen Strawberry Shortcake dolls, My Catra doll; she can come and play with your She Ra any time; Toys from Happy Meals that are still in packaging and others that aren't, My Sophomore Homecoming dress, My eighth grade graduation dress that I also wore to my dad's funeral the same week, Every paper and notebook from college, credential classes, and my MA program, pass letters from high school, stickers and patches from high school, the Voodoo Glow Skulls set list, Flowers from all of my grandparents' and my father's funerals, My dad's men's size 28 Levi's (this is SUPER skinny). Okay, so I could go on FOREVER!!!! There would be more, but when I moved out of my parents house my husband helped me pack and he forced me to get rid of stuff. He doesn't keep much.

I love looking back at stuff like that. I moved out of home (and country) when I was 18 so every time I go back to South Africa for a visit I have to do some clearing up of all my old things in my parents house. Every now and again I stumble upon some treasures like the cassette tapes of recordings of my best friend and my "radio show", tons of barbie dolls, my precious lego collection, a large stack of love letters from my first real boyfriend... the list goes on, and Im so excited to see what I can find on my next trip back home later this year.

I treasure old school pics and letters from friends. I love to hang onto cards with sweet sentiments in them. My most treasured item would have to be my mother's perfum bottle. It doesn't even have a sprays worth left in the bottle...just enough to smell her. My Mother passed away with Lou Gerhig's disease when I was 15 years old. As you can imagine, I miss her dearly.

Thank you for letting me share. Your blog is precious and I check it almost daily. :)

Woah! I need this space saver thing!! Where have I been?!?!

I am a big-time purger, so I have 1 rubbermaid tote that has things like my district spelling bee trophy (woot) from 4th grade, my girl scout sash, 2 old photo albums from jr high and high school, and a scrapbook that i put together w/ newspaper clippings, certificates, report cards, and photos and whatnot of my life.

At one point, I had a shoebox in there that had my charms necklace (does anyone know those? anyone?), but my kids got at that and destroyed it. same w/ the jelly bracelets that they wore and that immediately disintegrated.

anyway...knife collection? interesting.

I keep everything. It's really sad. I'm such a sentimentalist.

I did want to say that in the picture from when you were younger, you and your son look so much alike in the face!

Have a great day.

Fun post.

I've managed to let go of a lot of things, but only because I had to move and it forced me too.

I can, however, claim I still on a set of Bobbsey Twin books, hardback!

the Shera doll is my fave. I had her castle once upon a time. I love digging through old memories. my hubs doesn't get it b/c he never saves ANYTHING. all my bins are in my storage shed. :)

Last year my dad sold our house when he remarried and I had to go through all my stuff in storage in our old basement. Due to living 2000 miles from where I grew up and not having any basements in FL, I said good bye to a lot of my childhood memories. But I was thankful that my mom had saved everything and that I got to relive my childhood as an adult for two days

So funny. I have this huge stack of Garbage Pail Kid stickers. I have no idea if you even know what they are, but I inherited some from my brother and it made my stack about 3 times as large. I have crazy things I can't get rid of either!!
But Brad PITT!!! I wouldn't be getting rid of that for sure!!

Hola Ashley:

I would never get rid of the Brad Pitt stuff.

Recently, during our last move, I got rid of a lot of stuff I was holding onto. I kept the really big, important stuff. I tend to throw away more than save.

I'm not terribly sentimental when it comes to material things, except for when it comes to my kiddos. (:

Way too many. Not too much from my childhood cause we moved so much and I guess we were always getting rid of stuff.

But I have things that were my daughter's that my granddaughter plays with.

Then there is the crafting room.....

Since typing on an iPad isn't easy I'm keeping it simple. SheRa my daughter (3) and her aunt (5) love Shera. In fact they will use straws, and anything vaguely sword shaped, to proclaim loudly and only ever in public- for the honor of greyskull. Also the Shera song now includes he-man because apparently baby Ryker (8 months) needed in on it too.
