Dear Baby W, {Momma's Boy}

Dear Baby W,

You are a daddy's boy,
there's no doubt about that!

But for some reason, from the moment you woke up this morning until I tucked you into bed, you spent every waking second of the day as a complete Momma's boy--which, before having a child of my own, was my absolute pet peeve--but now...

...now, I must admit that having a few days here and there where you only want your momma to hold you, and feed you, and play with you, and read to you, and snuggle you and kiss you--well, it kinda makes me happy.

I turn to mush on the inside when you crawl over to my feet and use the hem of my skirt to pull yourself up into a standing position; and then reach your arms up towards me so that I will pick you up.

I love that on days like today, you pretend you have forgotten how to hold your own bottle so that Mommy will pull you up onto her lap and hold it for you.

I love how you give me your fake quiver lip if you don't have my undivided attention for even one second.

And while I'd like to think that days like today are your way of showing me how much you love your momma--I know that in reality, your Momma's boy routine, usually means a fever is just around the corner on or a new tooth is making its way through.

And that's okay.

Because I'll take cuddle time over squirmy time any way I can get it.

So thanks for today.

love,

momma

A year ago today...

A Year Ago Today

A year ago yesterday I was 40 pounds heavier.
{42 pounds to be exact--yes, I'm serious}

A year ago yesterday I felt like a third grader the night before the first day of school {times infinity}.

A year ago yesterday I was wearing a pair of your daddy's basketball shorts because they were the only thing that fit.

A year ago yesterday I was cramming in the last few chapters of "the Baby Whisperer" hoping to learn all the secrets of being a new momma.

A year ago yesterday I stayed up all night in anxious anticipation.

A year ago yesterday I sat in your room and went through all your clothes one by one. I ran my hands across your crisp bedding. I tested out the new plush rocking chair and I imagined what it would be like when I brought you home later that week and we sat down cuddled together.

A year ago yesterday, I couldn't even begin to fathom to depths to which I would love you.

And then, after a very quick c-section delivery,

A year ago TODAY--you were born!

{And my heart nearly exploded}

Happy FIRST Birthday to my smiley boy!

Dear Nearly One Year Old Baby W...

Dear nearly one year old Baby W,

In just 6 short days you will be turning ONE--and I am in complete denial.

I can hardly fathom how you went from an itty bitty little guy who literally swam {and kick boxed} around in my belly...

To a handsome little boy who makes me smile every day.

Wasn't it just yesterday that we brought you home from the hospital and you changed our world forever?

I remember when you were too tiny to put up a fight when I made you wear a hat.

I remember when your face was nothing but irresistible kissy chub.

I remember when you were just 3 weeks old and I forced you to get in your toy box for this photo.

{creepy or adorable--we haven't yet reached a verdict}

I remember your VERY FIRST holiday--and I was determined to make it special for you.  At just 3.5 months old, I dressed you in this orange get-up and we set off for your first trip to the pumpkin patch.  This would be the first of many ventures where you did your best to humor your momma.

How excited does he look about being dressed like a pumpkin?

Later that night, I switched out the pumpkin hat for your candy corn hat {from the Target dollar section of course}.

And then on Halloween day I made you wear this ridiculously cute monkey costume.  And although you were perhaps one of the squirmiest babies on the planet--you never moved a muscle while wearing this costume.

I remember when you went through this faze where you would open your eyes VERY wide every time the camera flash went off.  Resulting in this:

I remember the first time you really laughed--and how it was the best sound I had ever heard.

And then I remember when you decided to have an opinion about things--and you let your face show us what you were thinking.

While you have changed so much over the last year--you are still the little boy I brought into this world on July 8, 2009--with smushy cheeks, my turned up nose, your Daddy's dimples, an undetermined persons puffy lips and long eye lashes, and a contagious smile and laugh all your own.

{3 weeks old and 11 months old}

And even though you bounce off the walls...

And can be a bit "intense" at times...

And have a boogery nose...

And get caught going places you aren't allowed...

And getting into things you aren't supposed to...

And are the messiest eater...

And have single handedly redesigned my living room...

I wouldn't have it ANY other way!
Because you're MY messy eating, trouble making, crazy crawling cuddle bug--and I love everything about you!

So here's to hoping your momma learns how to cope with this whole turning one business--because so far its not looking too good.

I love you.

Dear Baby W

Dear Baby W,

This morning I woke up, took one look at your dimple smile and thought to myself,
 "Wow, I made you--and you're pretty awesome".
And that makes me happy!

Love,

your obsessed momma
